Biography
Kathy Young, born on 21 October 1945 in Santa Ana, California, is an American singer who gained traction as a teen pop artist. Raised in Long Beach, California, she began playing the guitar and singing in a church choir at a young age. Her musical journey started when she participated in and won local talent contests during her school years.
Her breakthrough came in 1960 when she met Jim Lee, manager of The Innocents and director at Indigo Records, who signed her after hearing her demo tapes. Her debut single "A Thousand Stars" was released that September, reaching the third position on Billboardâs Hot 100 chart. This success was followed by additional hits, including "Happy Birthday Blues" (#30) and "Magic Is The Night" (#80). She continued to release singles with Indigo until 1962, when she moved to Monogram Records with Jim Lee. Her final releases under this label included collaborations with Chris Montez in 1964. After perceiving the end of her music career, she relocated to the UK and married John Walker of The Walker Brothers in 1965. Following their divorce in 1969, she returned to the US, later resuming her musical activities in the late 1990s with performances at venues including the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and Meadowlands Sports Complex in New Jersey.
