Marilyn Sultana Aboulafia, known professionally as Kathy Barr, was born on June 4, 1929, in the Bronx, New York. She began her career as a vocalist in the 1950s, performing and recording popular, jazz, musical theater, and operettas. Her breakthrough came with her coloratura soprano range, spanning three and one-half octaves, which allowed her to sing pop, jazz, and classical music. Barr flourished from the 1950s through the mid-1960s in musical theater, nightclubs, television, and radio. In 1957, she released the album Follow Me, and was part of the cast recording featuring Giorgio Tozzi as the lead in "The Riff Song" and "Romance" in 1958. Her roles included Marinka in Marinka and Dorothy Gale in Wizard of Oz. Barr retired from recording in 1965 after her second marriage but continued performing until around 1968. She passed away on June 21, 2008, in Hollywood, Florida.
