Biography

Jozef van Wissem, born on November 22, 1962, in Maastricht, Netherlands, is a Dutch lute player and minimalist composer. He studied lute in New York with Patrick O'Brien during the 1990s. Van Wissem's early solo albums, It Is All That Is Made (2009) and Ex Patris (2010), were released on Important Records. In 2011, he collaborated with Jim Jarmusch on the album The Joy That Never Ends. Van Wissem gained significant recognition for his score of the film Only Lovers Left Alive, which earned him the Cannes Soundtrack Award in 2013. His music has been featured in films such as Irma Vep (2022) and Un Prince (2023).
