Biography

Jordan Dykstra, born in Sioux City, Iowa, is an American violist and composer known for his work in film and chamber music. He studied composition at CalArts. His early releases include Small Sur (2005) and A Quiet Night (2011). Dykstra's breakthrough in film scoring came with the 2017 psychological thriller/horror film It Comes at Night. He has since composed music for films such as Gus Van Sant’s Restless (2011), Penny Lane’s documentary Hail Satan? (2019), and the narrative film Blow the Man Down (2019). His work on documentaries includes Mstyslav Chernov's 20 Days in Mariupol, which won the Audience Award for Best World Cinema Documentary at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Dykstra has also received a BMI Award for his score for 20 Days in Mariupol in 2024.
