Biography

Roger Doyle, born on July 17, 1949, in Malahide, County Dublin, Ireland, is a composer known for his electro-acoustic work and piano music for theatre. He began studying piano at age nine and later attended the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where he earned two composition scholarships. Doyle's early career involved performing as a drummer with groups like Supply Demand and Curve, releasing his first LP Oizzo No in 1975. His breakthrough came with the electro-acoustic magnum opus Babel KBBL, a five-CD set composed over ten years, celebrating diverse musical languages. Notable works include Thalia (1978) and Rapid Eye Movements (1980). Doyle has also composed scores for films such as Budawanny, Pigs, and the documentary Atlantean. He was made a Saoi of Aosdána in 2019.
