Biography

Gary Stroutsos, born on July 19, 1954, in the United States of America, was an American flutist. He began his musical journey by tapping into the Native American canon and reviving several forgotten songs. His career took off with the release of Pacific Moon in 2001. Stroutsos collaborated with various recognized musicians including Danilo Lozano, Jonn Serrie, William Eaton, Glen Velez, David Lanz, James Newton, Poncho Sanchez, and Michito Sanchez. He played a variety of flutes from around the world in unusual settings. Vance Pennington crafted a Gary Stroutsos signature version of the Xiao flute, which Stroutsos introduced to Native American music. His later works include Night Chants: Native American Flute (2018). Stroutsos passed away on October 12, 2024, at the age of 70, from multiple system atrophy, a rare neurological disease.
