Biography
The renowned jazz trumpeter Jon Faddis has enjoyed a solo career as a recording artist spanning 30 years but his work as a session player is probably more familiar to the record buying public. Songs such as the 1970s hit 'Disco Inferno' feature his trumpet playing and he has also appeared on four Paul Simon albums including the double Grammy Award winning 'Graceland' on which Faddis played the catchy trumpet hook on 'You Can Call Me Al'.
Faddis was born in Oakland, California and started out his professional career at the age of 18 playing in Lionel Hampton's big band. He soon progressed to become an in-demand session player working in New York studios during the 1970s at a time when disco was all the rage and many of the songs featured brass sections. In the mid 1980s Faddis decided to move away from the session work to start a solo career. He hit an artistic sweet spot at the end of the decade recording three notable albums, 'Legacy', 'Into the Faddisphere' and 'Hornucopia'. Latterly Faddis has been involved in teaching and mentoring young players at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, Westchester, New York.
