Biography

Leader of the band Bellowhead and member of the duo Spiers & Boden, British musician Jon Boden went on to pursue his own career. Born Jonathan James Boden on March 17, 1977, he grew up in Winchester (Hampshire) and studied medieval music at university, before gaining a Master's degree in composition at the London College of Music. In 1999, he met accordionist John Spiers, with whom he formed the duo Spiers & Boden. While he continued to perform and record with this duo, in 2001 Jon Boden met guitarist and singer Eliza Carthy, and became her accompanist in her band Ratcatchers. In 2004, he formed Bellowhead, with whom he made five albums before splitting in 2016. For his part, the guitarist, violinist, percussionist and singer established his own career with the album Painted Lady (2006), followed by Songs from the Foodplain (2009). In 2010, he embarked on a series of recordings entitled A Folk Song a Day, with twelve albums released monthly until June 2011. After Afterglow (2017), Jon Boden joins The Remnant Kings for Rose in June (2019) and Parlour Ballads (2024). Meanwhile, he brings the "Floodplain Triloby" to a close with the album Last Mile Home (2021), dedicated like the two previous instalments to climate change.
