Biography

Born in the heart of the Yopougon district in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire's economic capital, Jojo le Barbu came to prominence in the 2010s for his freestyles on productions by Debordo and coupé-décalé star DJ Arafat. When he came into the sights of KGS Production, he produced his first singles within the structure, which revealed him on the Ivory Coast rap scene. Two tracks, "Y'a pas 2eux" (2018) and "Iphone" (2018) seduced the public and garnered hundreds of thousands of listens. Jojo le Barbu's rap opens up to electronic production and vocals, bringing a fresh air to the country's musical production. Provocative, he quickly made a name for himself on the media scene, nurturing a culture of precise punchlines. After recounting his origins in his track "Ivoirien " (2019), Jojo le Barbu goes international on "Bisou " (2021), featuring Cameroonian rapper Tenor. With a series of tracks entitled Barbarie, featuring artists such as Censeur, Kud, Authentik, KG225, Paranormal, Trapa, Stive and Otopsi225 on "Barbarie 1" (2022), the rapper became an ever more important part of the Ivory Coast rap scene, fuelling public expectations of him. In 2024, Jojo le Barbu returned with a series of singles including "Armée céleste", "L'homme noir" and "Faut Me Snapper (FMS)", followed by "Non hein" in 2025.
