Biography

John Núñez, born on February 11, 1996, in New York City to Dominican parents, is an American singer-songwriter who trained in classical music from childhood, joining the Metropolitan Opera children’s choir at age nine before shifting toward Latin pop, tropical, and bachata. After signing with Premium Latin Music, distributed by Sony, he introduced himself with “With or Without You” in 2014 and quickly followed with “One More Night” and “Solo Quiero.” His self-titled debut album, Johnny Sky, arrived in 2015 and established his profile with songs such as “Quiéreme,” “En Todo Fuiste la Mejor,” and “La Estrategia”; that cycle brought him a Billboard Tropical Airplay Number 1 for “Quiéreme,” a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Tropical Album, and additional nominations at Premios Juventud, Premio Lo Nuestro, and Premios Soberano. After a quieter stretch, he resumed releasing music with “Only You” in 2022, then opened a new run of singles with “Call On Me” and “Dime Cómo Se Siente” in 2023, followed by “Dime” and “Flying Solo” in 2024. In 2025, he stayed active with “Rewind,” “Me Dejaste Sin Nada,” “Showtime,” “La Culpa,” “30 Minutos,” and “Desconocidos.” In 2026, he added “No Soy Opción” and reached a new career milestone by representing the Dominican Republic at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, where his performance of “Call On Me” earned him the Silver Seagull for Best Performer.
