Biography

John Mooney, born April 3, 1955 in East Orange, New Jersey, is an American blues guitarist and singer. At age 15, he left home and met Son House, a significant musical influence. In 1976, Mooney moved to New Orleans and began playing with notable musicians such as Earl King and The Meters. His debut album, Comin' Your Way, was released on Blind Pig Records in May 1979. He formed his own band, Bluesiana, in 1981, and has since recorded and toured extensively. Mooney's discography includes albums like Late Last Night (1990), Telephone King (1991), and Against the Wall (October 13, 1997). His album Big Ol' Fiya was nominated for a Blues Music Award in 2007. Mooney has collaborated with various artists, including Dr. John on the album Gone to Hell (April 25, 2000).
