John Knowles, known professionally as John Kincade, was born on 25 June 1946 in Southport, Merseyside. He began his career as a pop singer in London during the 1960s, and his breakthrough arrived when he was discovered by an employee of the record label Penny Farthing during a tour in Spain. Despite being featured on the cover, John Kincade did not sing "Dreams Are Ten A Penny", which was released under his name in November 1972 and reached number two in Germany. The song was actually sung by singer, producer, and songwriter John Carter as part of a studio project. However, he pursued his own singing career and recorded a German version titled "Jenny, Jenny (Dreams Are Ten a Penny)", which placed second on Dieter Thomas Heck's ZDF-Hitparade. Aided by the production talents of Larry Page and John Carter, he released several hits in the mid-1970s, including a cover of "When" by the Kalin Twins and "Love Her Like A Lover". In 1976, he moved to Sweden and opened a school for pop singing. With the emergence of the 1970s revival in the 1990s, he returned to Germany and re-released some of his old hits. Notable albums include One Of Those Dreams (1974), Like A Lover (1975), and Hit-Collection.
