Biography
As a recording artist, American vocalist and songwriter Joey Scarbury, born June 7, 1955 in Ontario, California, was a quintessential one-hit wonder. Nabbing his first recording contract while still a teenager, he eventually scored a minor chart hit, âMixed Up Guyâ, in 1971. He did not return to the charts for a decade. During that time, he worked as a backup singer for established artists. He began working with television theme song maestro Mike Post, who, at the beginning of the 1980s, assigned Joey Scarbury to sing âBelieve It or Notâ, the theme song to The Greatest American Hero. The soft-rock song became a smash, hitting number 2 on the pop charts in 1981. The singer attempted to capitalize, but his follow-up, âWhen She Dancesâ, stalled at number 49. He also hastily assembled his first album, Americaâs Greatest Hero, which Mike Post produced. It would be the only album he ever released. He would go on to co-write the 1990 country chart topper âNo Matter How Highâ for The Oak Ridge Boys, and he recorded the theme to a few other TV shows including Adventures of the Gummi Bears and Jennifer Slept Here as well as performing on multiple songs for the animated special Itâs Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown.
