Biography

Joel Forrester, born on May 2, 1946 in the United States of America, is an American pianist and jazz composer. He began his career composing music for early films by Andy Warhol. In 1980, he co-founded The Microscopic Septet with saxophonist Phillip Johnston. Forrester's composition "Fresh Air" notably became the theme song for NPR's Fresh Air. He also composed the off-Broadway satire Fascist Living and worked as an accompanist for silent films in Paris, performing at venues like The Louvre and Musée d'Orsay. His notable albums include Stop the Music, released in 1997, and Ever Wonder Why, released in 2004. Forrester's diverse musical talents were explored in the 2014 documentary Embracing Dissonance: A Life in Bebop.
