Alta Moda was a Canadian funk rock band formed in 1979 in Toronto by singer Molly Johnson and guitarist Norman Orenstein. The group added drummer Steven Gelineau and bassist Etric Lyons in 1982 and 1983 respectively. After releasing the promotional single "Train" in 1986, Alta Moda signed to CBS Records and released their debut album Alta Moda in 1987. The album featured the single "Julian", which peaked at number 53 on the RPM Hot 100 chart in January 1988. The band declined a Juno Award nomination for "Julian" due to miscategorization and was dropped from CBS Records after poor sales. Alta Moda disbanded in 1988.
