Joseph Pugliese, also known as Joe Pug, born on April 20, 1984, in Greenbelt, Maryland, is an American singer-songwriter. He began performing music at a young age and co-founded the R&B and blues cover band Guys with Ties during high school. After dropping out of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Pug moved to Chicago, where he worked as a carpenter and started playing open-mike nights. His EP, Nation of Heat, was self-released in 2009 and gained traction through an unconventional promotional strategy, selling over 20,000 copies. Notable collaborations include touring with Steve Earle in 2009, which marked a significant breakthrough in Pug's career. In 2010, Pug signed with Nashville indie label Lightning Rod Records and released his first full-length album, Messenger. He followed this with The Great Despiser in 2012 and Windfall in 2015. Joe Pug released The Flood in Color in 2019 and The Diving Sun in 2021. In 2024, Pug announced the release of Sketch of a Promised Departure.
