Biography

Jimmy Charles Holmes, known as Jimmy "Duck" Holmes, was born on July 28, 1947 in Bentonia, Mississippi. He is a blues musician and proprietor of the Blue Front Cafe. Holmes learned to play the blues from Henry Stuckey, the originator of the Bentonia blues style. His music utilizes open E-minor, open D-minor, and down-tuned variants. In 2006, he released his debut album Back to Bentonia on Broke and Hungry Records, which won two Living Blues Awards for Best Debut Blues Album and Best Acoustic Blues Album. Subsequent albums include Done Got Tired of Tryin' (2007), Ain't It Lonesome (2009), All Night Long (2013), Twice as Hard (2014), It Is What It Is (2016), and Cypress Grove (2019). Holmes has performed at various festivals, including the Chicago Blues Festival.
