Biography

Jimmie Lee Robinson, born April 30, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, was an American blues musician known for his work in the Chicago blues scene. He learned to play guitar from his neighbor, Blind Percy, and began performing at Maxwell Street market in 1942. In 1955, he joined a band led by Little Walter, becoming the vocalist after Walter was incapacitated by a shooting in 1958, but left the band later that year. Robinson worked as a session musician for artists like Howlin' Wolf and Magic Sam, and released three singles for Bandera Records, including "All of My Life" in 1960. He toured Europe in 1965 with Buddy Guy, Big Mama Thornton, and John Lee Hooker as part of the American Folk Blues Festival. After a hiatus from music in the 1980s, Robinson returned to recording in the 1990s, releasing albums such as Lonely Traveller (1994) and All My Life (2001). He died on July 6, 2002.
