Biography

Mississippi Heat is an American blues band based in Chicago formed in 1991. Harmonica player Pierre Lacocque established the group after guitarist Jon McDonald invited him onstage during a performance at Cafe Lura. They released their debut studio album Straight from the Heart (1992) through Van der Linden Records. Lead vocalist Robert Covington was replaced by Deitra Farr in 1993, who performed on the albums Learned the Hard Way (1994) and Thunder in My Heart (1995). Inetta Visor became the primary vocalist in 2001. The group has recorded numerous studio albums, including Handyman (1999), Delta Bound (2012), and Don't Look Back (2025). They have collaborated with guest artists such as John Primer and Billy Boy Arnold. Mississippi Heat released the live DVD One Eye Open: Live at Rosa's Lounge, Chicago (2005) and performed internationally in Europe, South America, and North Africa. Their musical style is rooted in the golden era of 1950s Chicago blues.
