Jens Düppe, born in 1974 in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany, is a drummer, composer, and bandleader of modern jazz. He began playing piano at an early age and started learning the drums at 10. Düppe studied at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar and later at the Conservatorium voor Muziek in Amsterdam, where he earned his master's degree. In the mid-1990s, he joined the Bundesjazzorchester and received a stipend for working in New York City in 2001. Düppe has collaborated with numerous artists including Maria Schneider, Kenny Werner, and Lee Konitz. He released several albums as a leader, including Anima (2015), Dancing Beauty (2017), Studio Concert (2019), and Ego_D (2022). In 2019, he received the WDR Jazzpreis for Improvisation. Düppe has also been a significant figure in organizing experimental concert series such as Kommunikation 9.
