Biography

A singer from Brazzaville, Didace Bémou, also known as Jean-Didace Bémou, began his musical career in the 1990s. As a youngster, he was introduced to music by his father, a harmonium musician in the family parish. After representing the Congo in athletics, with appearances at the Los Angeles 1984 and Seoul 1988 Olympic Games, Didace Bémou turned to music and singing, releasing his first album, Nostalgie, in 1992. His songs, which evoke suffering, melancholy and major social issues, intrigued and seduced audiences. With his second album, Entrez C'est Ouvert, sung in French, Bémou went from strength to strength. But it was 2005 that marked the artist's crowning moment, with the release of his third album, Trafic D'Influence, whose eponymous track caused a sensation in the Congo. Oscillating between Nancy and his native Congo, Didace Bémou flourishes in his musical career and regularly offers new releases, such as Scène De Vie Courante in 2016 and Pili-Pili in 2019.
