Biography
Jean Deaux is an American singer-songwriter and rapper who emerged onto the scene in the 2010s with her sultry blend of left-field R&B, hip-hop, and pop music. Born Zoi Harris on May 4, 1995, in Chicago, Illinois, her artistic journey began with acting and poetry before finally pivoting to music. Taking her alias from a line in a Rick Ross song, she made a name for herself through a series of collaborations with artists like Saba, Isaiah Rashad, Mick Jenkins, Mykki Blanco, and Noname before dropping her debut single "Father Time" via Downtown Records in 2017. That year, she also independently released the single "Wikipedia." Preceded by the singles "Energy" and "Back to You," her first EP Krash saw the light in 2018 and featured guest spots by alt-R&B luminaries Kari Faux and Ravyn Lenae. Over the following years, Jean Deaux continued honing her craft on releases such as Empathy (2019), Watch This! (2020), and Most Wanted (2021). A moodier affair, 2023's Heavy retained some of its predecessors' alluring vocal melodies but traded in the lush textures for harsher, more abrasive production values.
