Biography
J.D. Crowe and The New South, a bluegrass band from the United States, was formed in 1971 by banjo player J.D. Crowe. Initially known as the Kentucky Mountain Boys, their first two albums, Bluegrass Evolution (recorded in 1973) and J.D. Crowe & The New South (1975), established them as a dominant force in bluegrass music. Notable members included Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs, and Jerry Douglas. In 2002, the entire band quit to form Wildfire, but Crowe quickly reassembled The New South with new members. Other notable albums include My Home Ainât in the Hall of Fame (1978) and Leftyâs Old Guitar (2006).
