Biography

Jayme Marques is a Brazilian guitarist, singer, and composer born as Jayme Marques Serrano on 12 June 1936 in Campo Grande. He achieved professional recognition for introducing bossa nova and Brazilian music to Europe and Asia. After performing in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Marques relocated to Europe in the late 1950s and collaborated with performers including Gato Barbieri and Robledo. He achieved professional recognition for a collaboration with Paco de Lucía and for establishing the Balear Big Band in Mallorca. In 1975, he returned to Madrid to perform in the television program Directísimo. His recording career includes the debut extended play A ritmo brasileño (1971) and the studio recording Brasil pop (1975). He achieved professional recognition for the track "Qué cosa más linda" (1981), which reached number 5 on the charts. Marques collaborated with artists including Jacques Brel, Tom Jones, and Maria Creuza. He received the Premio ATV (2001) for best music original for the series Un país en la mochila.
