Biography
Sweden's Jay-Jay Johanson (b. Trollhättan, October 11, 1968), with his classy looks and fragile, youthful crooner voice, is the antithesis of the 1950s crooner. A little-known artist, he made a name for himself as a specialist in melancholy songs with the delicate trip-hop albums Whiskey (1996) and Tattoo (1998). Ten years on, this discreet singer continues to craft minimalist electro pop on his albums Self Portrait (2009) and Spellbound (2011). His success, particularly in France, continues unabated, and twenty years after his debut, he can celebrate this consistency with the release of his tenth album, Opium (2015). Following the release of Bury the Hatchet in 2017, Kings Cross, released in 2019, refers to the neighborhood where the musician lived prior to his career. One of his tracks, "Hear Somebody Whistle", has been chosen as the theme song for several TV series. Jay-Jay Johanson, who performs as a trio or a full band in intimate or highly arranged form, continues with Rorschach Test in 2021 and its lead track "Vertigo", while the melody of the ballad "Finally", on the following album Fetish (2023), is directly inspired by Brahms' 3rd symphony. In 2025, the album Backstage is released.
