Biography
Iceland's prolific purveyors of ice-cool electronica, GusGus, formed in Reykjavik in 1995 initially as a film and acting collective comprising different artists, before the group began carving a unique space for themselves in the field of electronic music. GusGus â composed of a sprawling pool of members including Birgir Ãórarinsson (a.k.a. Veiran), Stephan Stephenssen (a.k.a President Bongo) and singer DanÃel Ãgúst Haraldsson, among many more â kicked off their trajectory with their debut album GusGus in 1995, which was followed by 1997's critically acclaimed Polydistortion for 4AD â melding trip-hop, electronica and acid-dipped techno â and 1999âs This is Normal, with both making it into the UK charts, reaching 130th and 94th place. The collective went on to release a clutch of well-received and lauded albums, with highlights including 2007's electrifying Forever, 2009's 24/7 for Kompakt records, which mixed minimal techno and electropop, and 2018's Lies Are More Flexible. In 2021, GusGus ushered in a new era with the release of their eleventh album, Mobile Home, featuring fellow Icelandic band Vök's vocalist Margrét Rán and US star John Grant.
