Jasmine Guy, born Jasmine Guy on March 10, 1962, in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American singer. Raised in Atlanta, Georgia, she began her artistic journey at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York City. Her music career started during her time on the television show A Different World, where she released her debut album, Jasmine Guy, in 1990. The album featured notable singles such as "Try Me", "Another Like My Lover", and "Just Want To Hold You". The latter two songs reached positions Number 66 and Number 34 on the US Top 200 Singles Chart respectively. Her debut album peaked at Number 143 on the US Top 200 Album Chart. In addition to her music career, Guy is also known for her acting roles, notably as Whitley Gilbert in A Different World, a spin-off of The Cosby Show.
