Jarmo Savolainen, born on May 24, 1961, in Iisalmi, Eastern Finland, was a jazz pianist and composer. He initially studied classical piano before shifting his focus to jazz and enrolling at Berklee College of Music in 1980. Savolainen's career began with the release of Jarmo Savolainen (1985), followed by notable albums such as First Sight (1992) featuring Wallace Roney on trumpet, and True Image (1995) which included collaborations with Dave Liebman and Tim Hagans. Subsequent albums include Another Story (1997), Solo Duo Trio (2004), and Songs for Trio (2006). Savolainen also contributed as a composer and sideman to various projects such as the UMO Jazz Orchestra and Espoo Big Band. He passed away on June 11, 2009.
