Biography

Jaramar Soto (born August 3, 1954) was a Mexican traditional singer, songwriter, and painter from Mexico City. Soto began studying singing at age 10 and later studied textile and apparel design in Rome and Paris from 1972 to 1976. She relocated to Guadalajara in 1978. Soto performed with the groups Escalón and Ars Antiqua between 1982 and 1996. In 1990, Soto launched a solo project focused on medieval and Renaissance music. She released her debut album, Entre la pena y el gozo, in 1993, followed by Fingir que duermo (1995) and Si yo nunca muriera (1997). In 2010, she formed the jazz trio Caída Libre. Soto collaborated with the Cuarteto Latinoamericano on the 2015 album El hilo invisible, cantos sefaradíes, which won a Latin Grammy for Best Classical Music Album in 2016. Her discography included Diluvio (2008), Sueños (2017), and Todas las naves del mundo (2020).
