Gaetano Senese, known professionally as James Senese, was born on January 6, 1945, in Naples, Italy. He began playing the saxophone at age 12 and made his professional debut in the 1960s with The Showmen, later renamed Showmen 2, winning the 1968 Cantagiro competition. In 1974, Senese co-founded the jazz-rock group Napoli Centrale, which disbanded in 1978. Following this, he collaborated extensively with Pino Daniele and released his debut solo album James Senese in 1983 on Polydor Records. Notable albums include Il passo del gigante (1984), Alhambra (1988), and Hey James (1991). His later works, such as Sabato santo (2000), Ã fernut' 'o tiempo (2012), Aspettanno o tiempo (live, 2018) , O Sanghe JNC (2016), James Is Back (2021), and Stiamo Cerccando il Mondo (2023) continued to showcase his musical versatility. Senese passed away on October 29, 2025, in Naples.
