Biography

Juan Carlos Baglietto (born 14 June 1956 in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina) began performing in local groups in 1972 before forming the band Irreal in 1975. He launched his solo career in the early 1980s and achieved a national breakthrough with his debut album Tiempos difíciles (1982), which includes “Era en abril” and featured key collaborators from Rosario’s songwriting scene; he followed it the same year with Actuar para vivir (1982) and continued his early run with Baglietto (1983) and Baglietto y compañía (1984). Mid-1980s releases included Modelo para armar (1985) and Acné (1986), and he received a Konex Diploma al Mérito in 1985. In the 1990s he released Ayúdame a mirar (1990), Corazón de barco (1993)—which earned him an ACE award—Luz quitapenas (1996), and the concert retrospective 15 años (1998). Parallel to his solo catalog, he developed a long-running partnership with Lito Vitale, highlighted by Postales del alma (1999), which won the Latin Grammy for Best Tango Album in 2000, followed by further joint releases including No olvides... (2000) and Qué más hacer en esta tierra incendiada sino cantar (2001). He returned to solo work with Sabe quién (2006), later expanded the duo discography with Vitale on Clásicos y acústicos (2012), Postales del Nuevo Mundo (2015), and Tangos (2023), and in 2024 released the live album AHORA ROCK (En Vivo) with Vitale.
