Jacob Kirkegaard, born 1975 in Denmark, is a sound artist known for his scientific approach to exploring sound in art. He graduated from the Academy of Arts and Media in Cologne, Germany, in early 2006. Kirkegaard's work focuses on uncovering musical potential in hidden environmental sound layers, utilizing tools like accelerometers, hydrophones, and custom-built electromagnetic receivers. His early releases include self-titled cassette tapes Escape from the Outside (1989) and A New Youth (1990). In 2003, he released his debut album 01.02. Subsequent albums include Eldfjall (2005), 4 Rooms (2006), and Labyrinthitis (2008), the latter created from sounds recorded inside his inner ear. Notable collaborations include Forget to Breathe with Lydia Lunch (2008) and Svævninger with Else Marie Pade (2012). Kirkegaard's work has been featured in various prestigious institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art.
