Biography

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey formed in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1994. The band initially started as an octet with a horn section and included founding members Brian Haas on keyboards/composition, Reed Mathis, Sean Layton, Dove McHargue, Matt Leland, and Kyle Wright. In the summer of 2000, they transitioned to a trio known as the Jacob Fred Trio. Their music blends jazz with elements of hip-hop, funk, and rock. In 2004, they released their first album under Hyena Records, Walking With Giants. The following year saw the release of The Sameness Of Difference and Tomorrow We'll Know Today: Live in USA and Europe. In 2008, they released Lil Tae Rides Again, an album with significant electronic elements. The band has toured extensively across North America and Europe, sharing stages with notable artists such as Medeski Martin & Wood, Bill Frisell, and John Scofield.
