Jackie Leven (born 18 June 1950 in Scotland) is a singer-songwriter who first recorded Control in 1971 as John St Field. He formed Doll by Doll in 1977, releasing four albums until 1983. After a violent assault that left him mute for two years, he returned to recording in 1984 and later issued the single "Big Tears" with Glen Matlock in 1988. Signed to Cooking Vinyl in 1994, he released The Mystery of Love is Greater than the Mystery of Death and numerous albums, including Sir Vincent Lone releases Songs For Lonely Americans (2006) and Troubadour Heart (2009). He collaborated with Ian Rankin on Jackie Leven Said (2005) and with Michael Cosgrave on Wayside Shrines and the Code of the Travelling Man (2011). Leven died of cancer on 14 November 2011.
