Biography

Jaap Blonk is a Dutch avant-garde composer and singer born in 1953 in Woerden. He achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by sound poetry and improvisation. After studying physics, mathematics, and musicology, he performed as a saxophonist and poet. His recording career began with the studio recording Ursonate (1986), a performance of a work by Kurt Schwitters. Blonk established the ensembles Splinks, BRAXTAAL, and Five Men Singing. His discography includes the studio recordings Baba-Oemf (1989), BRAAXTAAL (1991), and Splinks (1992). He achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Vocalor (1998). His recording career includes the studio recordings New Start (2020) and JaJAA (2025).
