IV Xample was an American vocal quartet formed in Los Angeles, consisting of Andre "Dre" Allen, Robert "Bobby C" Chevis (also known as Athemus Chevis), his brother Raymond "Runni Rae" Chevis, and Bryant "Lucious" Woodert. The group's first recording, "The Swang", achieved local radio play in Los Angeles on 92.3 The Beat and reached Number 1 on the station's popular segment showcasing up-and-coming artists. This success led to a bidding war between record labels, with MCA Records ultimately signing the group. Their debut single for MCA, "I'd Rather Be Alone", reached Number 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved Top 40 status on the R&B charts. The follow-up single, "From the Fool", peaked at Number 95 on the R&B charts. IV Xample released their debut album For Example in 1995, which was certified gold. They toured internationally, visiting Japan, Australia, Canada, and other countries. However, Bobby Chevis left the group for a solo career in 1999, releasing "Why-Oh-Why" under the name B.C., which became a Billboard Hot 100 pop hit. Following Chevis' departure, IV Xample disbanded. Andre "Dre" Allen later found success as a performer, releasing three solo albums for Tommy Boy Records and his own label Movemakers Entertainment, and worked as a songwriter, producer, and director for various artists.
