Siiiii, a British goth punk band formed in Sheffield, England, in 1983, took their name from William S. Burroughs' novel The Soft Machine. The group initially consisted of Paul Devine on vocals, Mark Holmes on guitar, Angie Holmes on bass, and Wayne Furniss on drums and guitar. They quickly gained traction in the UK goth scene, performing with influential bands such as Skeletal Family and The March Violets. In 1986, after recording several tracks and gaining favorable reviews, Siiiii disbanded due to an inability to secure a record label. Mark Holmes went on to perform with The Anti-Group. In 2005, the band regrouped to release Ancient in 2006, a compilation of demos from their early years. They performed at the last Drop Dead Festival in New York and embarked on European tours. A live album, Ein Verdammtes Versprechen, was recorded in Germany in 2008 and released in limited quantities on the band's King Sol Records label. In 2014, Siiiii released the studio album Modern, featuring material recorded in Manchester, Sheffield, and Glastonbury.
