Biography

The Italian pop/rock band Dik Dik was formed in Milan in 1965. Within a year, the group had climbed to the top of the Italian charts with "Sognando la California," a cover of The Mamas and the Papas' "California Dreamin.'" Although they scored a similar hit in 1967 with "Senza Luce" — an Italian cover of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale" — Dik Dik also released original material, often teaming up with collaborators like Lucio Battisti (who co-wrote the band's "Dolce di Giorno") and Mogol (who composed their 1968 chart-topper, "Il Primo Giorno di Primavera"). The band's albums were rarely as popular as their singles, yet Dik Dik continued releasing hit songs throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. The group reunited in the late 1990s for a triumphant second act that took them into the 21st century, with Giancarlo "Lallo" Sbriziolo and Pietro "Pietruccio" Montalbetti serving as Dik Dik's longest-running original members.
