Biography

Humanist is a British collaborative music project founded in 2016 by guitarist, songwriter, and producer Rob Marshall, who began recording instrumental tracks in his Hastings home studio before inviting guest vocalists. The project’s debut single, "Shock Collar", released in 2020, set the tone for the self‑titled album Humanist, issued that year via Ignition Records and featuring Mark Lanegan, Dave Gahan, and Carl Hancock Rux. In 2024, Humanist released On the Edge of a Lost and Lonely World through Bella Union, a record that addressed grief and rebirth and reached Number 71 on the UK Albums Sales Chart. The band supported major acts such as Depeche Mode and Jane’s Addiction and performed a UK headline tour in 2024, solidifying its presence in the alternative rock landscape.
