Biography

The American rapper Huey was born Lawrence Franks, Jr. in Kinloch, Missouri in 1989. He grew up in a tough district of St. Louis and credits his experiences as a teenager as having helped shape and influence his music. At the age of 15 he began to develop an interest in writing hip-hop and started to perform under the stage name Huey. His song 'Pop, Lock and Drop It' was adopted by various local radio stations and DJs and became a local hit and this eventually led to him signing a deal with Jive Records. The track was included as the lead single on his debut album 'Notebook Paper' (2007) and eventually peaked at number six in the Billboard Hot 100 with the album reaching number 26 in the Billboard 200. To date 'Pop, Lock and Drop It' has been Franks' most significant commercial success with 'Redemption' (2010), the follow-up album to 'Notebook Paper', failing to chart.
