Biography

Henry Lee Summer, born Henry Lee Swartz on July 5, 1955 in Brazil, Indiana, is an American rock singer and musician. He began his musical journey as a singer and drummer, later teaching himself guitar and keyboards. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Summer toured extensively across the American Midwest and South, releasing two independent albums under Majestic Records with his manager James Bogard: Stay with Me (1984) and Time for Big Fun (1985). His breakthrough came in 1987 when he signed to Epic CBS Associated. Summer's self-titled debut album on Epic, released in March 1988, featured the hit single "I Wish I Had a Girl", which reached Number 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart and number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. He followed this success with I've Got Everything (1989), which included the single "Hey Baby" peaking at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Way Past Midnight (1991). Throughout his career, Summer toured with notable acts such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Money, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Don Henley, Robert Palmer, Cheap Trick, 38 Special, and Richard Marx. He also performed at Farm Aid 4 in 1990 alongside Elton John and Guns N' Roses. Summer's contributions to film soundtracks include Iron Eagle II, Twins, Queens Logic, Sniper, Striking Distance, and The Raffle. On February 9, 2014, he was inducted into the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame.
