Biography
Eminent composer of the second half of the 20th century, Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) studied at the Douai and Paris conservatories before winning the Grand Prix de Rome in 1938. Attached to the Radiodiffusion française, then to the Ãcole Normale de Musique and the Conservatoire de Paris, he continued to compose a monumental body of work, recognized and honored during his lifetime with the Ernst von Siemens Prize in 2005. In addition to the piano pieces created by his wife Geneviève Joy(Sonate pour piano), this oeuvre includes orchestral pieces such as Symphonie n°1 (1951) and Symphonie n°2 "Le Double " (1959), Métaboles (1965) and Timbre, espace, mouvement (1978), concertante works(Tout un monde lointain, 1970), chamber music and solo works, and vocal works such as San Francisco Night (1963), Correspondances (2003) and Le Temps de l'Horloge, premiered in 2009. Henri Dutilleux died on May 22, 2013 at the age of 97.
