Biography

A cellist since the age of four, Anne Gastinel (born in the Rhône region in 1971) studied at the Lyon Conservatoire before going on to teach there a few years later, and then at the Paris Conservatoire with masters Paul Tortelier, Janos Starker and Yo-Yo Ma. Regularly praised by the specialist press since her recording debut in 1989, she has won three Victoires de la Musique awards, and moved from the "Revelation of the Year" category in 1994 to "Soloist of the Year" in 2006. Patron of several festivals, she received the acclaim of Mstislav Rostropovitch and was entrusted with Pablo Casals' instrument. A specialist in chamber music, her repertoire includes works by Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Fauré and other composers of various periods and styles. In 2009, Anne Gastinel teamed up with guitarist Pablo Marquez for the album Ibérica. It's a short step from Spain to Latin America, and the cellist takes it one step further five years later on Americas.
