Biography

Back Number is a Japanese rock trio. They formed in 2004 and after several lineup changes the current trio made their debut with the 2009 EP Ato No Matsuri ('Fish Set Free') and the 2010 album Too Late. The band's main songwriter is vocalist Iyori Shimizu accompanied by Kazuya Kojima (bass guitar, backing vocals) and drummer Hisashi Kurihara, who joined in 2006. Their next album was the popular 2011 release Superstar followed by albums Blues (2012), Love Story (2014) and number one hit album Chandelier in 2015. The 2015 single "Christmas Song" also reached number one and was used in commercials and TV shows. Their greatest hits album Encore reached the top of the album charts in Japan in 2016. They released their sixth album Magic in 2019, featuring their 20th single "Happy Birthday", which started out as the soundtrack for a TV series. In 2023 they released the long-awaited new full-length Humor.
