Heinrich Graf von Kalnein, born on July 4, 1960, in Baden-Baden, Germany, is a jazz musician. He began playing the flute at age 11 and later took up the saxophone. Von Kalnein studied jazz saxophone at the University for Music and Performing Arts Graz, graduating in 1987. His career breakthrough came with his involvement in the experimental trio X-tra, which released albums like Electric Poems (1989) and life traKs. He founded the Heinrich von Kalnein Group in 1994, releasing the acclaimed album New Directions (1995), which was nominated for the German Record Critics' Award. Von Kalnein has also been active as a composer, educator, and producer, contributing significantly to the jazz scene in Austria.
