Heidevolk, a Dutch band from Arnhem, was formed in 2002 by six members who shared an interest in nature, Germanic mythology, folklore, and the history of Guelders. They initially performed under the name Hymir before changing it to Heidevolk, which translates to "people of the heathland" or "pagans." The band released their first single, "Het Gelders Volkslied", in October 2004, followed by their debut album, De Strijdlust Is Geboren, in March 2005. In 2007, Heidevolk signed with Napalm Records and released their second album, Walhalla Wacht. Notable releases include Batavi (2012), after which they embarked on their first North American tour, and Velua (2015). The band has seen several lineup changes. Their album, Vuur Van Verzet, was released in 2018.
