Biography

He Yong, born February 15, 1969, in Beijing, China, is a Chinese rock musician who began learning music from his father at age six. He started playing guitar at 15 and joined the band Mayday in 1987, performing for students during the Tiananmen protests in 1989. He Yong's breakthrough came in May 1994 with the release of his album Garbage Dump, featuring the well-known song "Garbage Dump". The album explored themes including materialism and environmentalism. He Yong performed at a notable concert in Hong Kong in December 1994 alongside Tang Dynasty. Following personal struggles, he attempted self-immolation in 2002 and was hospitalized. Despite these challenges, He Yong performed at the Glorious Road of Chinese Rock concert near the Helan Mountains in August 2004.
