Coda formed in 1989 in Mexico City under the leadership of Salvador âXava Dragoâ Aguilar and guitarist Toño Ruiz, quickly emerging with their 1990 EP Tiempo Perfecto and solidifying their presence in 1993 with the full-length debut Enciéndelo, which included key singles like âEternamente,â âSin Ti No Sé Continuar,â and âTócame.â Their breakthrough came in 1995 with Veinte para las doce, featuring the iconic power ballad âAún,â produced in England and cementing their status in the emerging rock en español movement. In 1997, the band released Nivel 3, followed by a hiatus in 2000 and a triumphant return in 2002 with a new lineup and a series of albumsâincluding Vivo (2006), Cabo (2008), 9 (2012), and Ciclos (2015)âthat reaffirmed their musical evolution. Coda gave what was billed as their farewell performance in 2023 at the Teatro Metropólitan, and played their final appearance in early 2025 in Mérida. In August 2025, Xava Drago passed away after a courageous battle with stomach cancer, and with his passing, Coda officially disbanded, marking the end of an era for a band that had become a cornerstone of Mexican rock.
