Biography

Harvey Reid, born in 1954 in California, is an American folk guitarist and singer. He began his musical journey by teaching folk guitar at the University of Maryland in 1976. Reid's breakthrough came with his victory in the 1981 National Fingerpicking Guitar Competition and the 1982 International Autoharp contest. In 1982, he established Woodpecker Records and released his first LP, Nothin' but Guitar. Throughout his career, Reid has released numerous albums, including The Coming of Winter (1986), Of Wind and Water (1988), and Solo Guitar Sketchbook (1989). He is known for his extensive use of partial capos in his recordings. In 2024, Reid was inducted into the Maine Music Awards Hall of Fame.
