Biography

Lee Kyung-eun (born February 17, 1975, in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, Korea), better known by her stage name Harisu, is a South Korean pop singer, model, and actress. Harisu lived in Japan for several years, where she studied to become a hair stylist and worked as a nightclub singer. After returning to Korea in 2000, she signed with TTM Entertainment and adopted the stage name Harisu. As the Republic of Korea's first transgender entertainer, the performer attracted significant media attention and in June 2001, she was the subject of a television documentary produced by KBS, which explored her childhood, family relationships, and career. That same year, Harisu published her autobiography, Eve from Adam, and appeared in a music video for the dance group Turbo. In September 2001, she made her K-pop debut with the album Temptation, a mix of techno-style pop music and slow ballads, which peaked at number 32 on the MIAK (Music Industry Association of Korea) K-pop albums chart. Her second album, Liar, released in October 2002, became her biggest domestic chart success, reaching number 23 in its first month of release. In February 2004, Harisu released her third album, Foxy Lady, which marked a shift towards a more hip-hop/R&B style, however, the album failed to break into the top 50 on the Korean charts. In 2005, the album was released in Taiwan and China, with songs re-recorded in Mandarin, and she was promoted by her Taiwanese record label as the "Kylie Minogue of the East." After a prolonged absence from the Korean music scene, Harisu returned in January 2006 with her fourth, self-titled album, preceded by the digital single "Winter Story" which peaked at number 46 in Korea. As with her previous album, it was also released in Taiwan and China, featuring additional songs recorded in Mandarin. Her fifth Korean album, Summer, followed just six months later, though it did not chart in the top 50. In December 2007, Harisu released a digital mini-album titled Winter Special, which included a duet with her husband on the track "First Snow." After a lengthy hiatus from the music industry, she made a comeback in 2018 with the single album Re:Su.
